Section: Holsinger Dairy Farm
Since the late nineteen-fifties, Dan Holsinger's family has been working Holsinger Dairy Farm, on Route 340 outside Waynesboro, Virginia. Half a century later, with 100 dairy cows on the farm, there's more than enough work for Dan and his sons Adam and Greg.
Although not certified organic, Holsinger Dairy Farm has never used RGBH, and does not buy feed or silage from outside sources, preferring to raise it on their own land.
In the spring of 2007, Perfect Flavor visited Dan Holsinger at home on the farm and asked him what attitude he has towards sustainable agriculture. He replied:
"The land is our family. The land is our future."
We couldn't agree more.
Perfect Flavor gets our milk straight from the cows at Holsinger Dairy Farm. We bring the raw milk to the Perfect Flavor creamery, where we pasteurize it, separate butterfat-rich cream from the skim milk, and make it into ice cream!
