Two more things vinegar is good for: removing hard water stains, at least from the hard water in my area; and getting dog pee stains out of carpet. For hard water residue: spray vinegar on the crusty stuff, let sit for a while, then rinse. May take more than 1 application if they're bad. Dog pee: I tried EVERYTHING, always had that spot; sprayed a little vinegar on it, cleaned with water and it's gone.

Valerie, I am so happy to hear this! I cannot tell you how great it is to hear you say that you're receptive to making some changes. It has been years since I started cleaning with vinegar, and now more than ever I am so relieved and proud to have made this change. Especially now with a curious crawler roaming every corner of my house and being all over my floor. I love that I know there is no scary chemical closet that he could get into and that when I clean he can be right there with me and a part of the action! Also, because of my three cats and one dog, I feel so good about not exposing them to harsh cleaners. It's hard to understand how affected they can be by cleaning products until you clean and get down on the floor with them. The smell and fumy aspect to cleaners can really be quite off-putting, especially if you have to be close to this stuff all the time. Congratulations to you!!

I'm so excited about trying this, I've been skeptical about the vinegar suggestion but now i'm ready, I'm so sick of being a part of the 'hypocrisy' you mentioned, scrubbing my bathroom with clorox so it will be 'healthier' but killing my lungs because i can't breathe while i'm cleaning

Thanks. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to trying this out.

What about shampoos and body wash, etc.? Any eco-friendly tips there?

Also, I didn't mention this tip in the blog, but I also only clean my floors with equal parts white vinegar and hot water. This works fantastically well for removing any grime or stain. If you want things to smell nice, add a few drops of essential oils to make things smell nice!
